The Story Behind the Studio
The SoulSpace Design creates calm, emotionally attuned interiors for modern living.
Rooted in environmental psychology and refined design practice, each space is shaped around how it should feel: grounded, effortless, and deeply personal.
Rather than focusing on surface aesthetics alone, the studio approaches design as a lived experience. One that supports clarity, connection, and a sense of ease in everyday life.
The Approach
Design is not decoration. It is the quiet framework that shapes how we move, think, and feel within a space. It is what I set out to build when I founded this studio, and what I bring to every project.
Every project begins with careful listening and observation. Understanding the emotional rhythm of a home allows form, proportion, material, and light to come together with intention. Natural textures, balanced compositions, and timeless palettes are chosen not to impress, but to endure.
The result is an interior that feels quietly confident and considered. Elegant without excess. Meaningful without explanation.
The Founder
I’m Hasti Mirkia, and I founded The SoulSpace Design because I believe the spaces we live in quietly shape everything: how we feel when we wake up, how we connect with the people we love, and how we settle into ourselves at the end of the day.
My path to interior design wasn’t traditional. I hold a PhD in Design Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I conducted original research on how the geometry of interior spaces affects human memory. Using eye-tracking technology and cognitive memory testing with 68 participants, I discovered that spaces designed with biomorphic elements, forms inspired by nature’s organic shapes, are significantly more memorable, more pleasant, and hold our visual attention longer than conventional rectilinear spaces. This research was published in the Journal of Interior Design and forms the scientific foundation of every design decision I make at SoulSpace.
That research is the foundation of everything I do at SoulSpace. But it’s only half the story. I’m also a painter, a maker, and someone who learns through her hands. I build sculptural pieces in my studio, I sketch before I render, and I believe that understanding how a material feels between your fingers matters as much as how it looks in a photograph.
I’m also a mother of two young children, and designing our own family home was the project that brought everything together: the research, the craft, the lived reality of making a space that works for morning chaos and quiet evenings alike. That experience taught me that great residential design isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.
When I work with clients, I bring all of this, the academic rigor, the artistic intuition, and the understanding that a home is where life actually happens.
What Defines SoulSpace
At SoulSpace, every space is created from the inside out. I begin with emotional alignment: how should this room make you feel? and then translate that into form, material, and detail.
The interiors I create are calm, editorial, and intentional. They’re designed to transcend trends and support how you actually live. Light, texture, and proportion are layered with care so that each space feels cohesive, grounded, and quietly expressive.
My process is personal and considered, guided by clarity rather than excess.
Invitation
A well-designed home shapes how you move through your day. If you’re seeking a space that feels aligned, grounded, and enduring, I’d love to begin that conversation with you.
This is not about changing how your home looks. It’s about shaping how it supports your life.
